Welcome Delmy

Our new teacher Delmy

As I mentioned in a previous post, our incredible teacher Rosa has left us, which left us in quite a predicament.  Not only did we have to find someone to fill the position of teacher, but more importantly, we had to find someone that would truly love the children and give their all to help them grow.  We knew that this teacher would have such an important part in the development of our children so it was of upmost importance for us to find someone that would be able to accomplish this.

For months we spread the word verbally, took out ads in the local newspaper, and announced the position online, trying to get as many candidates as possible to choose from.  After screening over 30 phone calls, and interviewing 10 people, we were able to narrow it down to 3 people.  While all 3 people were great choices and would have worked out fantastically, there was one person that stood out, and really fulfilled all the requirements that we were looking for in our teacher.  She was dynamic, had the necessary training, had an obvious love of children, had experience as a school principal, and had even volunteered before working with special needs children.  It didn’t take long for us to make our decision and that day we hired our new teacher: Delmy Vasquez.

Her first job was to organize all the school supplies!

Fast forward to today, more than a month later, and it is obvious that we made a great decision.  In just a short amount of time, she has already adapted to the children and they have grown really fond of her.  She has incredible patience (which is important, especially working with Edwin!!), has taken tons of initiative (she’s transformed the home with wonderful drawings and figures that she’s put on the walls of the home), and has already begun to involve the staff in the activities that she is doing.

So, even though I’m a little late, I am pleased to introduce you to our new teacher, Delmy.  We’re excited to have her with us and are even more excited to see what the future holds.
